Rick Coate

General Manager

 

Rick Coate joined The American Club on October 21, 2020. Rick brings a remarkable career spanning multiple continents and more than 30 years’ service & management experience to his position.

 

After beginning his career in retail, and then the airline industry, Rick moved into the world of sports club management. From 2002, he managed some of Australia’s most renowned golf clubs before taking over as the General Manager of the prestigious Hong Kong Cricket Club in 2012. After a three-and-a-half-year stint at the helm, he moved back to Australia where he managed the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron and was Sports Project Manager at Melbourne Cricket Club before taking over as CEO of Disabled Wintersport Australia.

 

In addition to his expansive management portfolio, Rick has undertaken formal management training and post-graduate education across a wide range of service-based industries, including an MBA from Deakin University and a professional certification from Harvard University.

Angie Ng

Senior Director of Finance

 

Angie was with The Club briefly in 2014/2015 in the same capacity and is excited to be back.

 

As Director of Finance, Angie has oversight responsibility for Accounts, Store, Payroll, Purchasing and IT.

 

Angie has many years of Finance experience, having held Finance leadership roles in the hospitality, retail and service industries, including listed companies and regional roles. Angie’s previous employers include IKANO Pte Ltd (franchisee of IKEA), Park Hotel Group, as well as CK Tang. Some of her major achievements include successfully assisting the Park Hotel Group to acquire 2 hotels in China and Japan, integrating IT systems for newly acquired properties and providing financial direction and securing favourable refinancing options to help CK Tang get back on track financially.

Dan Durkin

Director of Food & Beverage

 

As Director of Food & Beverage, Dan has oversight responsibilities on all operational and planning aspects for The Club’s dining outlets, programs and services.

 

Dan began his career as a Sous Chef after completing his training at the Colorado Culinary Institute at the Colorado Institute of Art, Denver, Colorado in 1997. Since then, he has amassed more than 20 years of Senior Management experience in the global hospitality industry. A specialist in Food & Beverage Program Management, Dan has proven expertise in multi-unit restaurant management, business development and growth management, process and operational improvements, and more. Dan’s major achievements include leading the successful expansion of Singapore-based Menu Pte Ltd's Brewerkz Restaurants & Microbreweries brand into Indonesia from 2013 to 2014, as well as formulating a franchise model that resulted in the expansion of Bangalore-based Habanero Foods International’s brands beyond existing markets from 2014 to 2017.

 

Dan is thrilled to be back in the service of The Club, having previously held a four-year tenure in the same capacity from 2009 to 2013, and serving as a Management Consultant to The Club since 2017. His key contributions to The Club thus far reflect his keen eye for operational excellence and passion for people development. These include the introduction of a Staff Development program that ensures continuous improvement across more than 200 functions in The Club’s Food & Beverage department, as well as managing the highly anticipated relaunch of five dining outlets following the completion of the Clubhouse’s redevelopment.

Jon Lim

Director of People Development

 

Jon rose to the rank of Commander during National Service, before embarking on his 20 year career in Human Resources. This includes a stellar career with Millennial Hotel Group and Marina Bay Sands. Jon holds a Diploma in Law and a Degree in Human Resources from Manchester University. Jon has specialised in nimble workforces, performance management and has completed several short courses with HR specialist consultancy Mercer.

Eleen Yap

Assistant Director of Club Services

 

Eleen cut her teeth at Swissôtel The Stamford Singapore and Conrad Treasury Brisbane before her pre-opening stint in City of Dreams Macau. She joined The American Club in 2013 and was actively involved in the planning and design of the redevelopment project for spa. She then left in 2017 for Macau, where she managed the Spa and Leisure facilities in Wynn Palace Macau before returning to the Club in 2019.

 

As the Assistant Director of Club Services, Eleen oversees sên Spa, Youth and Bowling.

Nerang

Assistant Director of Facilities and Security

 

Nerang has been with The American Club since March 2013. As Assistant Director of Facilities and Security, Nerang oversees the operations of Engineering, Housekeeping and as well as the Security teams in The Club. Some of Nerang major achievements includes the setting up and commissioning of cleanrooms in Malaysia ranging from Class 10 to Class 1000 and as well as a medical plant in Chai Chee, where he won an Exemplary Employee Award for his contributions. During his last stint in manufacturing, he was part of a regional corporate team who performed setups, training and audits in South Asia.

 

Nerang is a certified Water Efficiency Manager and also a Senior Fire Safety Manager registered with the SCDF.

Vp Chai

Assistant Director of IT

 

Vp Chai joined The American Club in 1989 and is responsible for Club’s Information Technology (IT) and network systems. He has solid experience in conceptualizing, driving technical solutions for complex problems in a Club environment with specific domain expertise in areas of data assessment, analytics and IT infrastructural needs.

 

In recent years, IT innovation has been pushed to the forefront of Club operations to help in improving productivity. Under his leadership, he leads the IT team to keep abreast of the need for IT development and to align the IT team’s efforts to The Club’s overall strategic direction.

Julie Zul

Assistant Director of Member Services

 

Julie joined the Club in January 2018, she was a former flight attendant for more than a decade with Silkair (which has now merged with Singapore Airlines). She started her career as a flight attendant and then worked her way up as a purser and eventually ending her tenure with the airline as a cabin service trainer.

 

She currently oversees the front office and Thinkspace teams. Her service skills are impeccable. She is currently studying Business Practice (Hospitality Management).

Elle Ng

Assistant Director of Membership

 

Elle joined The Club in 2014 as a Membership Sales & Marketing Manager and rose through the ranks to be Membership Manager in 2015. Her early career in the meetings, conferences and events industry over 10 years moulded her aptitude for service excellence and forging good relationships with people.

 

As the Assistant Director for Membership, Elle oversees the Membership Relations, Membership Marketing and Sales as well as the Member Engagement functions.

Paul Ng

Executive Sous Chef

 

Chef Paul Ng is the Executive Sous Chef of the Food & Beverage (F&B) Department at the American Club Singapore.  He joined the Club in 2011 and prior to that, he was with Private Affairs, a restaurant-lounge that offers a unique private dining concept.  Over the past 26 years, Chef Paul has honed his culinary skills in renowned kitchens both locally and abroad, including Les Amis, Saint Julien, Pierside Kitchen and the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.

 

Chef Paul takes charge of the F&B Kitchen team and steers the team towards achieving excellence in all aspects of their work to deliver the best to Club Members. He also oversees the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) for all kitchens in The Club.
