In Santa Barbara County, Jonata in Ballard Canyon and The Hilt in Sta. Rita Hills are sister estates known for vineyard-focused, precision winemaking. Both are owned by Stan Kroenke, who also owns Napa’s Screaming Eagle and Burgundy’s Domaine Bonneau du Martray. Since 2004 at Jonata and 2008 at The Hilt, winemaker Matt Dees has shaped every vine and vintage to reflect each site's unique character.

About the Presenter

Matt Dees, founding winemaker of Jonata and The Hilt, has been instrumental in shaping the identity of two of Santa Barbara County’s most acclaimed estates. A soil scientist by training and a winemaker by passion, Matt’s intuitive, vineyard-first approach has earned him recognition as one of the top winemakers in the United States.
