Dear Fellow Members,
Happy New Year! One of my favorite things about living internationally is the ability to learn about and celebrate various cultures and holidays. After recently ringing in 2024 with my family back in the United States, I am excited to celebrate the start of the Year of the Dragon here in Singapore with my American Club family. While admittedly I might be a little bias as I was born in the year of the Fire Dragon, I have enjoyed learning about all the surrounding festivities over my years living in Singapore. With Ramadan expected to start in March, Hari Raya Puasa anticipated on April 10, and the Easter holiday at the end of March, this Spring season is truly one of reflection and celebration.
By now, many of you have met Christine, our new General Manager. She has hit the proverbial ground running, and the Club has a lot of scheduled events for us all to enjoy. Please introduce yourself when you cross paths with her at the Club and share what you love best about our Club. Christine is extremely passionate about serving our Members, has an amazing vision for our Club, and is very focused on making our Club a world-class “home away from home” for us all.
Spring remains one of my favorite seasons as it was an end to the cold harsh winters while growing up in the Midwest. For those who track Punxsutawney Phil’s annual outing, I do not expect his prognosticating prowess (or lack thereof, with only a 39% accuracy rate) to necessarily apply to our Singapore Spring weather forecast. So, while we do not get the same fluctuations in temperature here in Singapore, Spring still symbolizes new beginnings, starting fresh, and the end of the monsoon season. Personally, I look forward to less weather cancellations so I can hopefully continue to improve my tennis game!
As the Club’s calendar is packed with upcoming events, I will be setting my alarm clock to wake up early to watch the Super Bowl™ LVIII Finals live at The Galbraith Ballroom and Union Bar. Even though my favorite team, the Chicago Bears, is not seemingly destined to perform another “Super Bowl™ Shuffle” anytime soon, I look forward to seeing you all at the Club at this, or many of the other events.
Respectfully,
Adam
