Azhar Zainudin, Director of Tennis



Azhar took an interest in sports from an early age – picking up tennis and soccer at the age of seven. By the time he was 15, he had represented Singapore at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors around Asia.

Azhar graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising & Design, but decided to pursue his first love – tennis. He joined The American Club as a part-time tennis coach in 1992 at the age of 18.

Fast forward 10 years to 2002, Azhar was appointed the Club’s Tennis Director. He left the Club in 2004 to gain exposure as a tennis professional, where he coached at various properties including the Swiss Club, Hollandse Club, the Fairmont and Shangri-la Hotel. Azhar joined Peter Burwash International (PBI) in 2007 and returned to The American Club to coach.

Azhar is now a dad to four lovely children and enjoys spending quality time with them at the beach or playing tennis.

Herman Ali, Senior Tennis Professional 



Herman has been a full-time Tennis Professional for the past 20 years. 


His years of experience include working with some of Singapore’s most prestigious schools such as HwaChong Junior College, TanjongKatongGirls' School and NanyangPolytechnic.  Herman’s coaching goal is to always create a fun and productive atmosphere for his students.


His passion for tennis started at a young age when he began playing the game at nine years old. He competed in the Singapore and Malaysian Junior Tennis Circuit and later the inter-varsity games, representing TemasekPolytechnic.


Prior to joining Peter BurwashInternational (PBI) in 2007, Herman’s club experience included coaching at the Laguna National Golf & Country Club, Amrita Spa Swiss Hotel, HollandseClub and Swiss Club.

Jack Konieczny, Senior Tennis Professional 



Originally from Poland, Jack is a member of the Polish Tennis Association and Professional Tennis Registry.


Jack started playing tennis at the tender age of six, and has competed in tournaments and leagues throughout the years where he placed in the top three in most of them.


After graduating from university, Jack started his journey as a coach to inspire new players to perfect their game. He has more than 10 years of experience as a tennis coach where he not only coached, but developed new programs at top clubs in northern Poland.


Other than his love for tennis, Jack also enjoys skiing, and is a licensed alpine ski instructor. During his free time, Jack enjoys windsurfing, skating, mountain biking, cooking and listening to music.

Joao Oliveira, Senior Tennis Professional 



Originally from Brazil, Joao previously worked at the Reynolds Plantation in Georgie before joining to The American Club in Singapore.


Joao grew up playing tennis in a small town in Brazil, and was ranked number one in his region at the age of 15 and 16, and have also attained state rankings.


Not too long after he started teaching, he developed an interest in coaching tennis as a career. This led him to pursue his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, and also a national coaching certification from the Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT).


After graduating from university, he went to the United States to play NCAA college tennis, first living in Laredo, Texas and then moving to Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. In the summers, he was a Tennis Professional at Camp Takajoin Maine, a former PBI affiliated program, recognized as one of the best summer junior camps in America.


Prior to joining Peter BurwashInternational (PBI), Joao served as a Tennis Professional at a tennis and squash academy in Varginha, Minas Gerais, teaching private lessons and clinics as well as organizing tennis related events and tournaments.


Besides tennis and sports, Joao's favoriteactivities are traveling and meeting new people. He is fluent in English and Portuguese, with working vocabulary in Spanish.

Sharassalam Rasak, Senior Tennis Professional



Shah started playing tennis at the age of 12 and quickly exceled in the sport. He was selected to join the Singapore Junior National squad at age of 16. Through hard work and dedication, he went on to win the local Spextournament at 17 years old. He continues to play in local and regional tournaments.


Shah has been coaching since the age of  21 years and went on to become the Head Coach at a local high school and varsity team for over 10 years.


Shah is so passionate and committed to tennis that he named his children after world famous tennis players with the blessing of his wife who is an avid tennis player as well.


His other hobbies are playing football and watching movies.

Alphonsus Tan, Tennis Professional



Alphonsushas been playing tennis since he was seven years old, and was scouted to be part of the school team back in high school, where he took home the B Division Singles & Doubles bronze medal twice.


He continued to be part of the school team in Polytechnic, winning the Gold medal twice at the Intervarsity Games.


Prior to joining The American Club, he coached the school’s tennis teams at St. Joseph’s Institution and Singapore Chinese Girl’s School.

Khairil Amali, Tennis Professional



For the past eight years, coaching has always been Khairil’spassion as he loves to help others fulfil their full potential on the tennis court. Having played tennis since he was in high school, his only regret was not starting earlier.


His previous coaching experience includes TanglinAcademy, SJI International, Henry Park Primary School, United World College, Active SG Tennis Academy, TanglinTrust School and CHIJ Toa Payoh.


He has played in local STA tournaments in both the Open and Intermediate Singles & Doubles categories, where he attained his highest ranking of Junior STA U18 No. eight. He also represented ITE in the POLITE games and was part of the Police Sports Association during his National Service.


Khairilis happily married with a beautiful baby boy and cannot wait to spend father and son quality time on the court when his son is older.

Reduan Ariffin, Tennis Professional



Reduanhas been coaching for more than 20 years in Singapore, and has worked with many prestigious clubs, hotels, international schools as well as the Singapore Tennis Association.


Reduanis a third generation tennis player in his family. He became a national level player in his early teens and was ranked the top three Singles & Doubles National Player by the time he ended his competitive tennis career.


His life goal is to provide top quality tennis coaching in Singapore, and his experience and passion for tennis has helped many young and aspiring player fulfil their true potential.

Bryan Chiam, Tennis Professional



Bryan has been coaching for the past seven years since he was 17. His resume includes coaching at academies such Savitar, TanglinTennis Academy and Aces Tennis Academy run by former Burmese No. 1 Tennis Player and SEA Games silver medallist, TumawLashi. 


Bryan is a graduate of The University of Stirling (SIM) and played #1 singles in the Singapore University Games. His competitive experience includes being captain of the St. Andrews secondary school ‘B’ and ‘C’ division teams as well as the TemasekPolytechnic tennis team. 


Having played competitively for more than 10 years and reaching the semi-finals at various national tournaments, Bryan hopes to be able to pass on his tactical and technical skills to his students.
