Penfolds was founded in the year 1844, when pioneering couple Dr Christopher Penfold and his wife Mary arrived in colonial Australia from the United Kingdom. They planted the vine cuttings from France that they had brought with them and began producing medicinal wines for Dr Penfold’s practice. Over the years, the brand has created several world-renowned drops, with their specialties including Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Riesling.

About the Speaker
Samuel Stephens started his career in the wine industry at age 18, while completing his Bachelor of Management degree. With a natural affinity and keen interest in the world of oenology, Sam gained vintage experience in McLaren Vale, working with both viticulturists and winemakers in 2002. Being Adelaide born and bred, he has Penfolds running through his veins and his passion for the wines and brand is infectious.
In addition to supporting Penfolds wines, Sam holds his WSET diploma and is a skilled wine educator and communicator. He has conducted many successful classes for members of the trade and consumers across the globe. With a strong passion for education, he is also a qualified WSET tutor who has taught numerous WSET level two and three courses.
