Human Capital Partnership Program - Feb 2017
We are proud to share that The Club is now one of 74 organizations in Singapore (and only 3 within the hospitality sector) to be recognized as a partner in the Human Capital Partnership (HCP) program. The HCP program is a tripartite initiative that brings together a community of exemplary employers in Singapore who are committed to progressive employment practices and developing their human capital. At the HCP CEO networking event on February 17, Minister for Manpower Lim Swee Say presented the HCP certificate to our GM, Martin Rudden.
Staff Annual Dinner & Dance 2016
It was a night of mystery and elegance as The American Club team got together to celebrate the Annual Staff Dinner & Dance on Monday, August 1. Held at the Pan Pacific Singapore, a record number of 351 staff came dressed to the theme of Black or White, 007 style. Highlights of the evening included two exciting F1 Race Car Simulators, an amazing line-up of staff talent performances, a wonderful array of lucky draw prizes and a jam-packed dance floor. Most importantly we also got to acknowledge the commitment and loyalty of many of our dedicated staff who achieved milestone years of service at The Club.
Most notably, Executive Sous Chef, Gee Sey Tan received a standing ovation for his 45 years of service. The Rookie of the Year award went to Kuan Beng Kwang, Francis (Essentials) while the GM's Award went to Lau Kok Foo (Engineering). Meanwhile, Sun Jialei (Stewarding), Anthony Pabalan (Front Office) and Mavis Julian (Sportscounter) received the coveted Employee of the Year awards.
TAFEP Eemplary Employer Award
The Club is proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2016 TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award and the special mention award for Outstanding Inclusive Workplace Culture. Presented by the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP), the awards recognize exemplary organizations that have effectively implemented fair, responsible and progressive employment practices in Singapore.
The awards serve as a wonderful acknowledgement of The Club’s efforts and commitment in creating and sustaining an inclusive workforce through the employment of HR strategies, policies and programs to enable team members to realize their full potentials.
GM Martin Rudden was presented the awards by Guest-of-Honor, Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say at the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award 2016 Presentation Ceremony on April 8.
The American Club is Singapore Service Class Certified
We are proud to announce that The Club is one of Singapore’s latest organization to achieve the Spring Singapore Business Excellence Service Class status. The Service Class (S-Class) status is awarded to organizations that have adopted and developed customer-centric approaches to service standards, and highlights capabilities in service leadership and agility to enhance customer experience and delight.
In particular, the attainment of this standard is testament to The Club’s commitment of delivering excellent service and creating value for Members and stakeholders, thereby contributing to a vibrant community and the larger social dining industry.
At the Award Winners Sharing Conference in March, only 30 other organizations were presented Business Excellence awards across the 3 disciplines of Innovation, People Development and Service. The Club is also the only club in Singapore to have attained 2 Business Excellence Certifications.
In tandem with the certifications, we have seen great results this past year, with staff engagement levels in the top quartile of all companies surveyed in Singapore and higher than companies in the ‘Hotels, Restaurant & Leisure’ category, on top of an industry-leading low staff attrition rate (and the lowest in living memory at The Club).
We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our team members for making this
Club such a special place, as well as to our Members for their incredible support and encouragement.
The Business Excellence (BE) initiative is administered by SPRING Singapore to help organizations strengthen their management systems and processes for high performance through adopting the business excellence framework. BE certifications recognize organizations’ efforts in meeting standards of good performance and commitment to business excellence.

Staff Annual Dinner & Dance 2015
The Club’s Annual Staff Dinner & Dance 2015 was held at the Mandarin Orchard Hotel on Monday, July 27, in true American Club style – and what a fabulous night it was! A record number of 333 staff attended our Denim & Diamonds-themed event, which included an amazing lineup of staff talent performances, a vast array of lucky draw prizes, a jam-packed dance floor and a performance by Donna Daniels who delighted the crowd with her unique brand of entertainment. The Club also acknowledged the commitment and loyalty of many of our long-serving staff who achieved significant milestone years of service at The Club. But above the food, drink and merriment, it was ultimately a night in celebration of our staff’s hard work and commitment to our Club community.
Harmony @Workplaces Photo Contest
The Club is proud to have bagged 3rd place in the Harmony @Workplaces Photo Contest organized by the Ministry of Manpower and its partners in May. The contest sought to encourage the fostering of workplace harmony among co-workers in Singapore. A photo, depicting The American Club staff celebrating interracial harmony at its “Rasa Singapura” themed Staff Dinner & Dance in 2014, was submitted for the competition and was selected as one of 13 winning entries out of 241 submissions by 135 organizations. The Club received $500 worth of shopping vouchers, which was channeled into Staff Welfare.

May Day Model Partnership Awards 2015
Our Senior Director of People Development, Tan Lee Lee, did The Club proud as she was acknowledged at this year’s May Day Model Partnership Awards ceremony. Organized by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), the annual event seeks to champion the spirit of teamwork and excellence among workers and employers.
Lee Lee was nominated by our Union Partner, the AREU, and was recognized in the HR Category for her efforts in facilitating improvement of workers’ jobs and nurturing an inclusive and supportive working environment. Across the HR / Supervisor category, only 16 other individuals were acknowledged nationally for turning strategy into action and driving staff upgrading and learning. She was presented the award by Guest-of-Honor, NTUC Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing.
The award served as a wonderful reflection of Lee Lee’s commitment to The Club, the staff and our partners in creating a future-ready workforce.

Club's Annual Dinner & Dance 2014
About 350 full time and part time staff members were on hand Monday evening, August 4 when The American Club hosted its Annual Dinner & Dance at the Marriot Hotel.
Trinkets from the past and Singlish phrases helped set the theme for the dinner/dance aptly named Rasa Singapura.
“It’s wonderful to see so many talented performers here tonight,” said General Manager, Martin Rudden. “Just look at this. We have about eight teams performing here tonight and they represent staff members from various outlets. That’s terrific.”
Some of our committee volunteers were also present to party the evening away with team members. Local celebrity/comedian Gurmit Singh also delighted the crowd with his engaging portrayal of Chinese blue-collar worker Phua Chu Kang. Gurmit’s versatility and multi-faceted talents as a comedian, host, and singer was an instant hit with the team members.

American Club Team Rallies Behind Hair for Hope Cause
Kudos to the team of American Club chefs who took part in Saturday’s Hair For Hope event to support children and families affected by childhood cancer. The event took place on Saturday, July 27 at Vivocity. It was the last chance for our team to make a "bald" statement and after all was said and done, the team made quite a statement. Through their symbolic gestures, they have helped create greater awareness of childhood cancer in Singapore and to bolster support for children with cancer and their families.

General Manager Receives Age Management Distinction Award
The American Club is very proud to be one of the 6 organizations to receive the Age Management Distinction Award. Our General Manager, Martin Rudden, received the award on June 18 at this year’s Age Management Seminar from the Minister of State for Health and Manpower, Dr Amy Khor.
The Age Management Distinction award is a recognition by the Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and Tripartite partners to promote and encourage employers who have successfully adopted age-friendly practices in their workplaces as well as their innovative efforts. The Club was nominated by the Singapore National Employers’ Federation (SNEF) in recognition of our stellar age management practices, such as ensuring good re-employment practices, managing an age-diverse workforce, and re-designing jobs to maximize productivity. The Club currently employs 101 staff who are aged 40 and above, making up more than 30% of our 305-strong Team.

May 11 - Mother's Day
A round of applause is in order for Chef Yeni and her team for spending countless hours planning and putting together an amazing handbag display made entirely out of strawberries.
